DESCRIPTION:\nA Skill-Building Session on Effective Communication & Advocacy\n\n\n\nThis live conversation from our Impact Series will provide you with the chance to learn practical skills for effective advocacy and communication concerning LGBTQ+ rights. \n\n\n\nOlivia Hunt, Policy Director at the National Center for Transgender Equality, will offer a particular focus on trans rights in a hostile environment. The session will also address questions about how health professionals can effectively advocate for their patients and engage in meaningful allyship. \n\n\n\nDr. V Gil-Rivas, chair of the Global Alliance’s LGBTQ+ Task Force, will moderate the Q&A portion.\n\n\n\n\nRegister Now\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMeet the Speakers\n\n\n\n\n\nOlivia Hunt\n\n\n\nOlivia Hunt is Policy Director at the National Center for Transgender Equality. She works with state and national coalition partners and government officials to craft policies on issues affecting transgender people, primarily focusing on health care and privacy. In 2015 and 2016, Olivia served as an Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps Legal Fellow at Whitman-Walker Health in Washington, DC, where she oversaw the name and gender marker change program that serves transgender clients throughout DC, Maryland, and Virginia. Prior to joining NCTE, she has also been in-house counsel to a tech startup and has worked in international election law and municipal law.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDr. V Gil-Rivas\n\n\n\nV Gil-Rivas, PhD is a Professor of Psychology at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and the chair of the LGBTQ+ Task Force of the Global Alliance for Behavioral Health and Social Justice. VGR’s work has focused on research and intervention efforts aimed at fostering the health and well-being of women, sexual and gender minorities, and marginalized and underserved populations. In particular, her program of research has focused on 1) the contribution of the social context to the adjustment of individuals and communities exposed to major negative life events and chronic adversity; and 2) the development, implementation, and evaluation of brief cognitive behavioral interventions that are culturally and contextually appropriate.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
